Business Expenses:
If you're a professional or a business owner, the goverment allows certain expenses to be deducted from your revenues. See our non-exhaustive Statement of Business Activities to help you organize and track your business income and expenses. Please note that business expenses must be backed up with receipts, to substantiate your income tax deductions. See our Tips for Handling Receipts section for more help.
Home Office Expenses:
You may be entitled to deduct a portion of the expenses related to the operation of your home, if you have a home-based business or if you are an employee who is required to work from home. See our Home Office Expenses Statement for a list of possible deductions.
Automobile Expenses:
If you use a vehicle in the course of your business or if you are an employee who is required to use their vehicle for work (other than commuting), you may be entitled to deduct a portion of the expenses related to the operation of your automobile(s). We've included an Automobile Mileage Log to help you keep track of your automobile's business mileage. See our Automobile Expenses Statement for a list of possible deductions.
Personal Expenses:
Each year when it's time to file your income tax return, it is important to prepare a mental checklist to ensure that nothing is forgotten. Moving Expenses:
If you have moved more than 40 km during the tax year, you may be entitled to deduct moving expenses from your income. See our Schedule of Moving Expenses for a list of possible deductions.
